Next we come to handling stairs with only one foot to the ground. There are people who can manage this with crutches, I am not one of them. It was suggested I could just sit on the step and scoot my butt up/down them. That doesn’t work too well when you can only use one foot to ‘scoot’. So, what to do?

Pictured here is an old plant stand that had belonged to my Dad and Step-mom. You will see I have added a cushion to the top. This became my portable ‘peg-leg’.

This worked well for not only going up and down stairs, but also getting up from lower seating like a couch. You could scoot up to the edge, roll you knee onto the stand and push yourself up.

Needless to say, my husband didn’t trust the strength of this old family heirloom. So he constructed a sturdier one. We are considering the idea of manufacturing these to sell. Do email me if you are interested 🙂
